EDUCATION
Living Music: High School Partnerships that Serve the Community
This partnership will provide enhanced learning opportunities; the chance to promote and produce a professional concert in their community; and college-path programs designed to increase enrollment.
Joyful Noise: Cultivating Creativity in Elementary School Children
Joyful Noise utilizes music as the common language to engage students, teachers, seniors, community members and community organizations in a shared cultural experience.
This standards-based teacher-training and in-school program is led by renowned music educator and violinist Monique Mead. Through Joyful Noise, teachers learn to create music with students using a diverse range of techniques they can apply to classroom composition projects. Mainly Mozart musicians, senior citizen volunteers and San Diego State University graduate students mentor the teachers and students throughout the year. The program culminates in a school-wide performance and public performance at the George L. Stevens Senior Center.
Mainly Mozart is proud to renew its partnership, sponsored in part by the San Diego Foundation, with Freese Elementary for the 2009–2010 school year. We’ve expanded the Joyful Noise program to include Crown Point Elementary and have implemented programming at Oak Park Elementary for the 2010-2011 school year.
SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES
Living Composers/Mozart Iluminado
The lives and music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven are brought to life and shared with over 50,000 elementary school students each year in San Diego County and Baja California through the Living Composers/Mozart Iluminado assemblies.
These informative and entertaining 45-minute assemblies engage students in interactive mini-plays set to the music of these master composers. A lively Q&A session rounds out the assembly, and teachers are provided with pre- and post-visit educational materials that prepare their students for the program and extends this unique educational experience into their classrooms.
Mainly Mozart, in partnership with Mater Dei Catholic High School in Chula Vista, presents this sampler series for students and South County residents. Now in its third year, the 2010 series is sponsored in part by the City of Chula Vista.
